The Lebanese University graduate Fatima Ghandour received a distinction for her PhD in Neuroscience & Pharmacology

The Lebanese University graduate Fatima Ghandour, obtained the degree of excellence on 17 February 2020 for her PhD dissertation in Neuroscience & Pharmacology entitled “PPAR-alpha as a new therapeutic target in psychiatric disorders”. Fatima prepared her dissertation under the joint supervision of the Doctoral School of Science & Technology at the Lebanese University and the Italian University of Cagliari.

In her dissertation, Fatima opened a new line of research in the discovery of psychiatric drugs and evaluation of the effect of "Clofibrate", which was found to remove anxiety quickly and demonstrated its ability to improve cognitive impairment in the animal model of schizophrenia.

Fatima worked under the supervision of Dr. Issam Kassab (from the Faculty of Pharmacy), Dr. Rasha Karaki (Assistant Supervisor from the Faculty of Pharmacy) at the Lebanese University and Dr. Paola Fadda from the Italian University of Cagliari.

Fatima holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences (Branch 5) and a Master’s degree in Oncology from the Deanship of the Faculty of Science at the Lebanese University.
