ISS – Branch 3 participates in a cultural seminar at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Dr. Dolly Sarraf, Professor of Sociology at the Institute of Social Sciences (ISS) – Branch 3 at the Lebanese University, participated in a meeting organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina entitled “Culture: Gateway to Development,” as part of the “Alexandria Dialogues” series, attended by the library's director, Dr. Ahmed Zayed, and a select group of researchers and professors in sociology.

Dr. Sarraf gave a presentation in which she emphasized the status of the city of Alexandria and its library as an intellectual and humanitarian beacon carrying a message of renewed knowledge. She stressed that true development is based on awareness and the human ability to understand and embrace the future.

Dr. Sarraf focused on the role of international donor organizations that offer ready-made development projects to different communities, noting that failure to take into account the cultural dimension of local communities often leads to the failure of these projects or their inability to achieve their objectives.

She also provided examples of a number of Lebanese towns where development projects were implemented without taking cultural specificities into account.

Dr. Sarraf's participation in this meeting comes within the framework of the Lebanese University and its professors' contribution to regional cultural and scientific dialogue and the strengthening of its presence in Arab and international research forums.
