The Lebanese University participate in the launch of CAREMED to strengthen primary care & chronic disease management

The Lebanese University, represented by its President, Dr. Bassam Badran, and the Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Dr. Elie Hadchiti, participated in the launch of CAREMED aimed at strengthening primary care & patient-centered services, during an official meeting held in Florence, Italy on 22-23 January 2026.

The CAREMED – Community-based Approach for Resilient Mediterranean Health project, brings together partners and institutions from across the Mediterranean region to respond to long-term and complex health needs.

CAREMED, a 36-month initiative coordinated by Meyer University Hospital (Italy) and co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED program, addresses one of the regions’ most pressing health challenges: the growing burden of chronic diseases and the need for more coordinated, people-centered care models.

During the kick-off meeting, partners from Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt launched a transnational collaboration to manage chronic disease and community-based healthcare models, with the aim of building more resilient health systems capable of withstanding future challenges.

Through pilot actions, joint training activities, and shared operational tools, CAREMED promotes patient-centered care models, enhancing prevention, continuity of care, and community-based health services across the Mediterranean region by creating a collaboration platform that connects healthcare stakeholders.
