The FLHS - Branch 1 organized International Conference on the changing concept of the term boundary

The Faculty of Letters & Human Sciences – Branch 1 organized an international conference entitled "The Changing Concept of the Term ‘Borders’ Between Stability and Transformation", with the participation of a select group of local and international academics.

 

The opening session of the conference, which was held over two days at the Central Administration Building - Museum, was attended by President Bassam Badran, the Dean of the FLHS, Dr. Soha El Samad, the Director of Branch 1, Dr. Badia Mazboudi, the Director of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, Dr. Nasser Yassin, the former Director, Dr. Khaled Ziadeh, and the President of the Executive Committee of the League of Full-Time Professors at the Lebanese University, Dr. Yahya Al-Rabih, and a number of directors, professors, researchers, and students.

 

Dr. Nada Maraachli pointed out the importance of borders as a system that gives things their true meaning, noting that the conference aimed to clarify the ambiguity surrounding this term.

 

The conference's foreign language coordinator, Dr. Carole Medawar, spoke about the concept of borders and their importance in a world suffering from major geopolitical turmoil, stressing the need to extrapolate contemporary transformations of borders through multidisciplinary approaches.

 

Dr. Mazboudi also gave a speech in which she argued that the term “borders” is not only geographical but also central to human life, and that it has multiple meanings in literature and language.

 

Dr. Ziadeh gave a speech in which he pointed out the importance of the conference topic, which relates to a range of humanities and social sciences.

 

Dean El Samad highlighted the importance of the conference in monitoring the changing concepts associated with the term "borders", emphasizing that the Lebanese University, particularly the FLHS, is proud to host this scientific meeting, which serves academic research in addressing current issues.

 

President Badran spoke and emphasized that the FLHS is a fundamental pillar of the university, and that it is constantly working to update its programs and curricula to keep pace with developments in society and technology. He also stressed the importance of holding student elections, considering that students are part of the branch and university councils.
