Dr. Hussein Basal registers a local patent in the field of medicinal plants
Dr. Hussein Youssef Basal of the Lebanese University registered a patent in the field of medicinal plants with the Ministry of Economy & Trade under No. 12179 entitled: “Lotus tetragonolobus, a Lebanese anti-inflammatory plant extracts, as alternative for drugs, with no side effects”.
The patent registered with the IP Protection Department on 14 April 2021, relates to extracting a substance from the lotus plant (Tetragonolopus) in two different ways, confirming its anti-inflammatory efficacy by more than 97% using the PCR and Western blot methods.
Dr. Basal holds a PhD in the field of "medical plants" from the Doctoral School of Science & Technology (DSST) and completed his dissertation under the direct supervision of the DSST Dean, Professor Fawaz Al-Omar and Professor Akram Hijazi/Assistant Supervisor, and the cooperation of Dr. Hussein Farhan.
In addition, Dr. Basal previously published two scientific articles related to the topic of patenting at the Publishing Institute (MDPI) - Switzerland.
