Elie El Mallah and Elite Boutros from the Lebanese University rank first and fourth locally in the “Chinese Bridge” Competition 2020
Elie Mallah and Elite Boutros (3rd year - Chinese Language at the Center for Languages & Translation of the Faculty of Letters & Human Sciences) ranked first and fourth locally in the “Chinese Bridge” competition – “Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Student 2020”, organized by the Confucius Institute of the Saint Joseph University with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Beirut.
After ranking first in Lebanon in September 2020, Elie Mallah qualified for the international competitions and ranked 22nd worldwide in the results released in early November 2020.
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the language competition was organized this year online, and included three stages evaluated by a specialized jury:
First: Give a speech in Chinese
Second: Cultural questions and answers about China
Third: Demonstrate Chinese skills
The “Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Student” is an international competition that attracts hundreds of undergraduates from more than 55 countries. It is an important platform for learning Chinese and expanding knowledge about Chinese civilization and culture. It entitles winners to obtain scholarships and pursue their studies in China.
