The Lebanese University and WHO set up an application to monitor food safety in the Middle East
The Lebanese University, in cooperation and coordination with the Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO), represented by Dr. Ayoub Al Jawaldeh, will launch in a few days the "NAS-Nutrition Assessment System" application.
The application, funded by the WHO/EMRO Nutrition Unit, is the first of its kind in Lebanon and in the region, and provides important and reliable information to measure nutritional indicators or people's eating habits.
The idea was initiated through a national study aimed at monitoring the state of food security in Lebanon during successive crises, the results of which were published in an international scientific journal entitled: "Exploring the Impact of Crises on Food Security in Lebanon: Results from a National Cross-Sectional Study".
The design and implementation of the application was supervised by Dr. Maha Hoteit, Head of the Nutrition Department at the Faculty of Public Health (Branch 1), in coordination with Dr. Youssef Al Atat from the Faculty of Science (Branch 4).
It is noteworthy that the application was registered with the Department of Intellectual Property Protection of the Lebanese Ministry of Economy & Trade on 13 October 2021.
