The Lebanese University graduate Kamel Harb ranked second in the “SundanceTV Shorts Competition”
Kamel Harb, graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture (Branch 1) won on 16 November 2020, the second prize for his film "The Red Mountain" in the first Middle East and North Africa edition of the “SundanceTV Shorts Competition”, organized in partnership with “beIN Media Group” and “Doha Film Institute”.
The short film was the 2018-2019 graduation project of Kamel who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Film & Television, and deals with the experience of two children who tried to escape from a rural boarding school to a world of their imagination.
Out of more than 370 films from the Middle East and North Africa, "The Red Mountain" was chosen for the second prize, by a specialized jury headed by the Swedish actress, Uma Thurman, winner of the Golden Globe Award and Academy Award nominee.
Regarding his studies at the Lebanese University, Harb says: “I am emotional towards the Lebanese University where I received two BAs, the first in cinema and television and the second in political and administrative sciences. The Lebanese University gave us legitimacy as students and put us in a constant challenge with our colleagues from private universities. It was always up to the standards, but the greatest responsibility remains on the student to develop skills and deepen his knowledge.
"The Red Mountain" participated in more than ten international festivals and won the award for best cinematography at the 2020 Dhaka “Global Youth Film Festival”.
