Three teams from the Lebanese University win the regional “Hult Prize 2021” finals
Three teams from the Lebanese University won the regional finals of “Hult Prize 2021 Beirut Impact Summit” announced on 16-17 April 2021, under the supervision of Centre MINE.
The summit was held online via Zoom, with the participation of about forty teams from Lebanese and Arab universities, while the Lebanese University participated in twenty teams of entrepreneurs and change leaders in twelve faculties.
In front of a jury of 10 international members, the participating teams presented their projects for this year’s challenge “Hult Prize Challenge: Food for Good”, and 3 teams from the Lebanese University won the international competition:
- “YummyB” from the Faculty of Science (Branch 2): Tonya Dergham spoke on behalf of the team and explained the project idea related to the production of some foods and foodstuffs saturated with probiotics by providing job opportunities for home women and farmers and achieving health, community and economic goals.
- “Chill-Lit” From the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture (Branch 4): The project idea relates to the manufacture of a container that self-cools and self-heats fast food through a safe chemical reaction, with half of the project profits going to NGOs concerned with reducing poverty and hunger.
- “Broccolata” from the Faculty of Economics & Business Administration (Branch 5): Student Aya Amer explained the project and how to combine dark chocolate, which contains a high percentage of antioxidants with broccoli, by making a new bar rich in these materials, vitamins and minerals.
In addition to the participating teams, the Lebanese University was also represented in “Hult Prize” competition by the Campus Director at the Faculty of Economics & Business Administration (Branch 5), student Nour Nazir, who was chosen by ACIE at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik as the first follow-up and active member with the judges of the competition program.
The result achieved by the Lebanese University comes after six months of diligent work that Centre MINE has followed since late 2020 with the teams that were nominated, with the change managers in the faculties and branches, and the efforts in developing student projects and improving their ideas through a series of seminars, orientation and training lectures.
