Circular No. 12 on intensive French and English courses at the Lebanese University

In order to raise the standard of foreign language teaching at the Lebanese University and to facilitate the pursuit of studies for students of all disciplines, the university organizes before the start of each academic year an 80-hour intensive French and English course spread over four weeks, at a rate of four hours per day (except Saturdays and Sundays), followed by a second 80-hour course also during the academic year.

As for the second course, it includes the language teaching hours scheduled in the program when available, and if there are no language teaching hours scheduled in the program, special hours are set aside for the course.

Coordination is ensured with each branch to establish the course syllabus in accordance with the program applied in the section.

 

1- Participate in these courses from the 2001-2002 academic year:

  • Students who have passed the entrance exams for faculties with entrance exams.
  • Second-year students in faculties without entrance exams.
  • Students are divided into two branches:
  • French language
  • English language
  • Depending on the student's cultural background and the language they have chosen at school (French or English).
  • Students are classified into at least two levels within the department.

2- The grade obtained by the student at the end of each course is taken into account in the deliberation.

3- Courses are held at the beginning of the academic year from October 10, and during the academic year, and registration is from September 15 to October 5. These dates are modified in accordance with the special conditions of the faculties, provided that a letter is submitted to the coordinator of the responsible committee Dr. Liliane Noura in this regard.

4- The Lebanese University charges each student thirty thousand Lebanese pounds as an examination fee for each course.

5- Each faculty is required to file with the Presidency of the Lebanese University - Office of the President:

* The names of students who have passed the entrance exams for faculties subject to this system, as soon as the results of the competition are announced.

* The number of students enrolled in the second year in each branch and specialization.

* The number of students registering for this course in all faculties of the Lebanese University, from September 10 to October 5, 2001.

This course will be announced in all branches and faculties of the Lebanese University upon receipt of this circular.
