Decree No. 74 Establishing Three Doctoral Schools at the Lebanese University

Article 1

The Lebanese University establishes three doctoral schools:

  • The Doctoral School of Science & Technology, which includes majors in: Science and Technology, Health Sciences (Medicine, Health, Pharmacy, Dentistry), Agriculture, Engineering and Architecture.
  • The Doctoral School of Law, Political, Administrative & Economic Sciences, which includes specializations in: Law, political and administrative sciences, economics, business administration, and tourism.
  • The Doctoral School of Literature, Humanities & Social Sciences, which includes majors in: Literature, Humanities, Social Sciences, Media and Documentation, and Fine Arts (excluding Architecture).

 

Article 2

Each of the three schools is considered a unit of the Lebanese University.

 

Article 3

Each of these schools is managed by a dean whose appointment and powers are subject to the same principles and conditions that apply to other deans of university faculties:

  • A dean whose appointment and powers are subject to the same principles and conditions that apply to other deans of university faculties.
  • A council consisting of professors with the rank of professor of higher education representing the various majors that make up the school, who are elected by the teaching staff in each major, and whose number is determined by a decision of the University Council.

 

Article 4

These schools grant master's degrees in research (M2 Recherche), PhD and HDR: Diploma in Research Management.

 

Article 5

The regulations of the three doctoral schools and the degrees they grant shall be established by a decision issued by the University Council based on the recommendation of each school.

 

Chapter II: Miscellaneous & Transitional Provisions

 

Article 6

The university facilities that grant graduate degrees of a research nature (DEA and M2 Research) currently in force shall be given a period of two years from the date of issuance of this decree to regularize their status in order to bring them in line with the regulations of the doctoral schools established herein according to their respective specializations.

 

Article 7

Any text that contradicts the provisions of this decree shall be canceled.

 

Article 8

This decree shall enter into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
