Article 1
Article 1 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 shall be amended to read as follows:
The faculty aims to open up the field of academic and intellectual achievement to all its enrolled students, providing them with a high level of specialized training and equipping them with the experience and scientific, methodological, and technical foundations necessary to assume leadership responsibilities in the establishment and management of institutions in the public and private sectors. It also contributes to the comprehensive and integrated development of Lebanese society, promotes its cultural openness, and expands the areas of Lebanese scientific and cultural cooperation with other countries.
Instead of:
The mission of the faculty is to:
- Provide all enrolled students with the educational and knowledge achievement;
- Prepare the students on the higher education and professional levels;
- Provide the students with the scientific, methodological and technical expertise to assume the leadership responsibility in establishing and managing the institutions in both public and private sectors;
- Contribute to the comprehensive and integrated development of the Lebanese society;
- Enhance the cultural openness;
- Expand the scientific and cultural cooperation on the international level.
Article 2
Article 4 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 shall be amended to read as follows:
The faculty awards its students in each specialization:
a. Bachelor's degree
b. Professional master's degree
c. Research master's degree
Instead of:
The faculty grants the students in each specialization a:
1. Bachelor Degree
2. Professional Master Degree
Article 3
Article 5 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is hereby repealed.
Article 4
Article 8 of Decision No. 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
The professional master's program includes the following specializations:
1- Economics:
a. Financial & Banking Economics
b. International Economics & Finance
2- Business Administration:
a. Accounting & Auditing
b. Finance & Financial Institutions
c. Management
d. Marketing
e. Administrative Information Technology
3- The faculty council has the right to propose the addition of new specializations or the cancellation of some of them in accordance with the applicable regulations.
The research master's program includes the following specializations:
1- Economics:
A. International Economics
2- Business Administration:
A. Management & Marketing
B. Accounting & Finance
3- The faculty council has the right to propose the addition of new specializations or the cancellation of some of them in accordance with the applicable regulations.
Instead of:
The Professional Master Degree includes the following tracks:
1. Economics:
a. Financial Economics and Banking
b. International Economics and Finance
2. Business Administration:
a. Accounting and Auditing
b. Finance and Financial Institutions

3. The Faculty Council may propose to add new specializations or cancel some of them according to the applicable regulations.
Article 5
Article 9 of Decision No. 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
The professional master's program includes a field study, project, or training period in the field of specialization lasting no less than eight weeks (minimum 250 working hours), culminating in a thesis prepared by the student worth 12 credits.
The research master's program includes a study in the field of specialization prepared by the student, worth 12 credits.
Instead of:
The professional master curriculum includes a field study or internship in the field of specialization of at least eight weeks or a minimum of 250 working hours, which is finalized with a thesis prepared by the student and equal to 30 credits.
Article 6
Article 10 of Decision No. 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
The university president shall appoint a committee to discuss the graduation project for the bachelor's degree, the professional master's thesis, and the research master's thesis based on the dean's recommendation.
Instead of:
The University President appoints a committee to discuss the graduation project in the bachelor and professional master’s degrees, on the proposal of the Faculty Dean.
Article 7
Article 17 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
The entrance exam system may be amended by a decision of the university council based on a proposal from the faculty council.
Instead of:
The conditions of student admission and the CEE subjects may be modified by a decision of the University Council upon the proposal of the Faculty Council.
Article 8
Article 18 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
A candidate who obtains a minimum average of 10/20 in their total marks is considered to have passed the exam. Any mark below 6/20 in mathematics and economics, and below 5/20 in Arabic language and foreign language culture, shall be considered invalid. In exceptional cases, the faculty council may amend the conditions for passing the exam after obtaining the approval of the university president.
Instead of:
The student who obtains a total average of at least 10/20 is considered to have passed the CEE. An eliminatory mark is each mark less than 6/20 in the mathematics and economics and 5/20 in the text analysis and written expression in Arabic and in a foreign language.
Article 9
Article 23 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
The transition from the bachelor's degree (BA) to the master's degree (MS) shall take place naturally in the first year of the master's program for all students who have completed all bachelor's degree courses.
The transition from the M1 to M2 shall be carried out according to the following process:
- First: Professional Master's
1. The student should be ranked among the top 35% of students in their class (year), or pass an entrance exam whose conditions are determined by the faculty council and approved by the university president.
2. Students who obtained a bachelor's degree in previous years are subject to an entrance exam.
3. The faculty council may set other conditions for registration after approval by the university president, including setting a maximum number of students who can be accepted in each major and specialization, and not exceeding a certain date for obtaining a bachelor's degree and a certain number of years of study for the bachelor's degree.
Second: Research Master's Degree
1. Success in an entrance exam, the conditions of which are determined by the faculty council and approved by the university president.
2. Fulfillment of other special conditions according to the master's specialization, which are determined by the faculty council and approved by the university president.
Third: The faculty awards a certificate of proficiency to students who succeed in M1.
Instead of:
In order to enroll for a Professional Master Degree, the student shall:
1. Have obtained the Bachelor Degree from the Lebanese University in the specialization relevant to the targeted professional master’s degree. The Faculty Council shall determine the enrollment conditions thereof.
2. Have obtained in the bachelor courses, a GPA of not less than 3/5 as per the grading scale adopted at the Lebanese University (or 12/20 according to the currently adopted system). The number of students can be supplemented by a CEE held by the faculty.
3. The fulfillment of other special conditions according to the Master specialization based on the proposal of the Faculty Council and the approval of the University Council (maximum number of students who can be accepted in each specialization and track; the date of obtaining the diploma should not exceed a certain limit; the number of study years in the bachelor should not exceed a certain limit).
Article 10
Article 24 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is hereby repealed.
Article 11
Article 25 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
The faculty has the right to accept students who graduated from other universities for the master's degree program, provided that they do not exceed 10% of the total number of accepted students, according to the following:
1. Possession of a bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the targeted master's degree from a recognized university, and equivalence of this degree according to the rules.
2. Obtaining a minimum average grade of 70/100 in the bachelor's degree.
3. Passing an entrance exam, the conditions of which are determined by the faculty council after approval by the university council.
Instead of:
The faculty is entitled to accept for the preparation of a master's degree, other universities graduates, up to 10% of the total admissions as follows:
1. Holding an equivalent bachelor’s degree in the specialization relevant to the targeted master’s degree from a recognized university.
2. Obtaining in the bachelor degree, an average of not less than 70/100.
3. Meeting the terms of assessment of students (CEE, file study, exams ...) approved by the University Council on the proposal of the Faculty Council.
Article 12
Article 26 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
Students admitted to prepare a bachelor's or master's degree who have studied at one of the other faculties of the Lebanese University may request the equivalence of some of the courses they have previously taken. This is based on the special equivalence system that determines the conditions for recognizing credits earned outside the faculty and issued by decision of the dean, provided that it does not conflict with the Lebanese University's equivalency system and that the total credits for equivalent courses do not exceed sixty (60) credits for a bachelor's degree and thirty (30) credits for a master's degree.
Instead of:
Students admitted for a bachelor of master’s degrees and who have studied in other universities or other faculties of the Lebanese University, may request the equivalence of some courses they have previously obtained. This request is based on the equivalency system identifying the terms for recognition of credits received outside the faculty and issued by the Faculty Dean, provided that it does not contradict with the general equivalency system at the Lebanese University. The number of credits that can be transferred shall not exceed (60) credits in the bachelor degree and (30) credits in the master’s degree.
Article 13
Article 28 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
Students have the right to review their academic registration within a maximum period of one week from the start of the semester, and may cancel their registration in certain courses within a maximum period of two weeks from the start of the semester.
Instead of:
The student has the right to reconsider his/her academic registration within one week at the latest from the commencement of teaching in the semester. He/she may also cancel this registration in some courses within a month at most from the beginning of the semester.
Article 14
Article 31 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
The final grade for each course in which the student takes a written exam at the end of the semester is composed of the following: midterm exam grade (30%), continuous assessment grade (10%), and final exam grade (60%) of the final grade for the course.
Instead of:
The final score of each course for which the student sits for a written exam at the end of the semester, is divided between the continuous evaluation score (40%) and the final exam score (60%) of the course final score.
Article 15
Article 33 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is hereby repealed.
Article 16
Article 34 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
The continuous assessment mark (10 marks out of 100) consists of actual attendance and participation. In specific cases approved by the faculty council, the partial exam mark for some courses may be reduced to 25 marks, with only five marks given for projects, training reports, and lectures prepared by students in class.
Instead of:
A continuous assessment score for each course consists of 30% as partial exam and 10% as student participation assessment.
Article 17
Article 36 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
A student who fails to attend the final written exam in the first or second session of a course, regardless of the excuses and reasons, shall be given a zero mark.
Instead of:
The student, who did not sit for the final exam of a course in the first session, receives a zero regardless of the excuses and reasons. If he/she does not sit for this exam in the second session for reasons of coercion or force majeure (death of a family member, emergency hospitalization…), a re-sit exam may be held by a decision of the University President following the proposal of the Faculty Council upon the recommendation of the Branch Council.
Article 18
Article 37 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
If a student fails to take the midterm and final exams in the first session of a course, he/she shall not be entitled to benefit from the second session of that course, except in cases of illness that require interruption of studies for a period exceeding two months, by decision of the faculty council based on the recommendation of the branch council.
Instead of:
The student, who did not sit for the continuous assessment and final exams of a course in the first session, he/shall not benefit from the second session in this course, except in cases of illness that require discontinuation of study for more than two months, according to the decision of the Faculty Council based on the recommendation of the Branch Council.
Article 19
Article 41 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
Courses are taught in classes with no more than 35 students, allowing professors to closely monitor and follow up on their students' work. No course has fewer than five students.
Instead of:
The courses are provided in classes of 35 students at most, allowing the professor to observe and follow up the work of the students.
Article 20
Article 42 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
A student may be considered enrolled in the second academic year if he/she has earned at least 36 credits, and may be considered enrolled in the third academic year if he/she has earned at least 96 credits. A student in the third year is allowed to graduate with 38 credits (instead of 36) if this qualifies him/her for graduation.
Instead of:
A student may be considered as administratively enrolled in the second academic year if he/she has obtained at least 36 credits. He/she may be considered as administratively enrolled in the third academic year if he/she has obtained at least 96 credits.
Article 21
Article 43 of Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011 is amended to read as follows:
Students may transfer from one department to another within the faculty by decision of the dean, provided that:
1. The transfer request is submitted within a maximum of 15 days from the start of the semester.
2. The directors of the two departments concerned approve the transfer after reviewing the student's academic record.
Instead of:
The student may transfer from one university branch to another within the faculty by a decision of the Dean, provided that he/she:
1- Applies for transfer within (15) days at most from the commencement of teaching in the semester;
2- Holds 50% at most of the credits required to obtain the target degree;
3- Obtains the approval of both directors of the branches concerned after reviewing the student's academic file.
Article 22
The study schedules for bachelor's and professional master's degrees attached to Decision 3624 dated 19/12/2011, the study curricula for research master's degrees (Tables 7 and 8) are added and are considered an integral part of this decision.
The rest remains unchanged.
Article 23
This decision shall be implemented as needed and shall take effect as of the academic year 2016–2017.
