Decision No. 716 Regulations governing postgraduate exams in dental medicine at the Faculty of Dental Medicine

Article 1

The Faculty of Dental Medicine adopts clinical degree programs in dental sciences based on the semester system. The academic year is divided into two semesters, each semester comprising 15 weeks. Each clinical degree program comprises a defined number of credits distributed between theoretical and practical-clinical subjects.

Article 2

Clinical degree programs adopt the teaching unit system as the basis for teaching this program. Each teaching unit comprises a defined number of credits corresponding to a very specific subject.

Article 3

The number of credit hours varies depending on the subjects and work completed by students.

Theoretical courses, credit = 10 hours.

Seminars, credit = 15 hours.

Practical work, credit = 20 hours

Research, credit = 25 hours.

Clinical courses, credit = 50 hours.

Article 4

Attendance at training courses, seminars, theoretical courses and clinical work is compulsory. Absences due to illness, on presentation of a medical certificate, or due to force majeure are accepted provided that they do not exceed 10% of the total number of hours. Beyond this limit, the decision rests with the faculty council, which examines the cases and takes the appropriate decision.

Article 5

Continuous assessment and the final exam at the end of the semester form the basis for the final grade for the course.

Article 6

The final grade for the course consists of two grades. The first grade covers practical and clinical subjects and corresponds to the sum of the continuous assessment grades (60%) and the final exam grade (40%). The second grade covers theoretical subjects and corresponds to the sum of the continuous assessment grades (40%) and the final exam grade (60%).

Article 7

The continuous assessment grade is calculated as the average of various oral and written tests, including at least one partial written test.

Article 8

The duration of the final exam for a theoretical subject is one hour per credit. For courses consisting of three or more credits, the duration of the exam is a maximum of three hours.

Article 9

For practical and clinical work, the final exam grade is calculated based on the average of the grades awarded by at least two examiners.

Article 10

Final theoretical exams take place at the end of the semester. The minimum grade required to pass a course is 60%. A second session is organized before the start of the new semester for students who have failed a course. In case of failure, the student registers for the course the following year.

Article 11

The final practical and clinical exams take place at the end of the semester. A minimum grade of 60% in all of these practical and clinical subjects is required to pass these subjects. If this is not the case, the student has to retake all of these subjects in the following semester.

Article 12

Students are not allowed to fail more than twice in practical and clinical subjects and in theoretical courses during their studies. A third failure will result in the student's exclusion from the program.

Parallel programs: certificate of specialization and university diploma

Article 13

The master's degree is a two- to three-year full-time program, culminating in a thesis. The articles and topics related to the thesis are determined by the scientific committee after approval by the faculty council and the university council.

The degree awarded at the end of the program is a Master of Dental Science. To obtain the master's degree, candidates should publish original research related to the thesis topic in a peer-reviewed journal before defending their thesis.

Article 14

It is possible to follow the same master's program without the courses related to the thesis (research units) and without a final thesis, in which case the student will receive a certificate of specialization.

Article 15

It is possible to follow a part-time specialization program leading to a university degree.

Article 16

Students who hold a university degree or other specialization diplomas may enroll in the master's program after equivalence of the content of the subjects taught and the number of hours has been established.

Article 17

Equivalence of these subjects is a necessary but not sufficient condition for enrollment in the master's program. Students may only be admitted to this program after approval by the faculty council and the university council.

Article 18

This decision shall be communicated and shall enter into force upon its publication.
