Chapter I: Appointment and promotion requirements

Article 1

The appointment or promotion of faculty members at the Faculty of Media and Documentation at the Lebanese University requires the following:

First: For the rank of professor

1- Possession of a PhD degree of the first category.

2- Publishing at least five original researches after obtaining this degree.

3- Practicing higher education for at least five years after obtaining the aforementioned degree.

Second: For the rank of Assistant Professor

1- Possessing a PhD degree of the first category.

- And practicing higher education for at least two years after obtaining the aforementioned degree

Or:

2- Possessing a PhD degree from the second category.

- And practicing higher education for at least four years after obtaining this degree.

- Publishing at least three original research papers after obtaining the aforementioned degree.

Third: For the rank of Adjunct Professor:

- Possession of at least a PhD degree from the second category.

Chapter II: Contracting Conditions

Article 2

Candidates for full-time teaching contracts shall be subject to the conditions stipulated in the previous article and shall be classified as full-time contractors at the grade for which they meet the requirements.

Article 3

The following applies to hourly candidates:

I: For teaching subjects that are also taught in other university faculties, the conditions applicable to those subjects shall apply.

II: For teaching subjects specific to the Faculty of Media and Documentation, contractors shall be classified into the three categories specified in Table 1 attached to this decree.

Third: The teaching materials of the Faculty of Media and Documentation are considered those specified in the attached Table No. 2, and the said table may be amended by a decision of the University Council based on the proposal of the Faculty Council.

Chapter III: Miscellaneous, Transitional & Final Provisions

Article 4

Original research is considered research that is published in journals of international repute.

Article 5

Original research for the application of the provisions of this decree is not considered original research that was the basis for obtaining a degree.

Article 6

A candidate shall not be appointed to the faculty unless he/she has at least two years of teaching contract at the Lebanese University during which time he/she has given at least half of the teaching load prescribed for the rank for which he/she is nominated.

Article 7

In order to implement the provisions of this decree, the University Council shall have the authority, after reviewing a report prepared by a specialized committee formed by the President of the University:

First: I: Evaluate the above-mentioned research.

Second: Categorize the certificates of candidates for appointment, promotion or contract between Category I and Category II, provided that the level of Category I is not less than the State Doctorate issued by the French universities, and the level of Category II is not less than the level of the third cycle doctorate issued by the mentioned universities.

Article 8

In order to classify certificates, the committee of specialists referred to in the previous article shall adopt the value of the thesis itself in addition to the value of the institution issuing the certificate.

Article 9

The Lebanese University may, if needed, and for a maximum period of the academic year 1985-1986, renew the full-time contract for teaching at the Faculty of Media and Documentation for those who were contracted for the academic year 1980-1981, according to the academic conditions on the basis of which they were contracted for the academic year 1980-1981, provided that preference is given in contracting to those who fulfill the new conditions stipulated in this decree from the said contractors or from other new candidates for contracting.

Article 10

Articles 10 to 15 of Decree No. 4156, dated 17/10/1972, concerning the organization of the Faculty of Media and Documentation, and Decree No. 3925, dated 14/3/1981, concerning the amendment of the provisions of the Faculty of Media and Documentation system, are repealed by implication.

Article 11

This decree shall enter into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
