Decree No. 5463 amending certain provisions of Decree No. 1118 of 12/10/1983 (Creation of the Faculty of Medical Sciences)

Article 1

In addition to the conditions specified in the regulations of the Lebanese University, a student wishing to join the first year of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Lebanese University is required to have obtained an average of at least 12/20 in the Lebanese Baccalaureate or its equivalent, in scientific subjects only (mathematics, physics, natural sciences, chemistry).

 

Article 2

Students enrolled in the first methodological year are subject to the examination system applicable to the other methodological years of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. Students are not allowed to repeat the first year, but those who pass may only sit the second-year entrance exam twice.

 

Article 3

The text of Article 12 of Decree No. 1118 of 12/10/1983 (creation of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Lebanese University) is cancelled and replaced by the following text:

  1. The number of semesters in the academic year and the number of partial and final examinations are determined by a decision of the University Council based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council.
  2. The student's pass or fail is decided at the end of the academic year on the basis of the total number of examinations mentioned, according to an evaluation system established by the University Council on the basis of the recommendation of the Faculty Council.

 

Article 4

The text of Article 14 of Decree No. 1118 of 12/10/1983 (creation of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Lebanese University) is cancelled and replaced by the following text:

  1. Students are admitted to the second year of studies in each of the specializations of medicine and odontology, or to prepare a specialist doctor's diploma in each specialty or a doctor's diploma in odontology, following a competition organized for this purpose by decision of the University Council, on the recommendation of the Faculty Council.
  2. Students are enrolled in the order of their success in the competition, without further consideration and within the limit of the number indicated above.
  3. A student who has obtained 12/20 or more on all his or her grades, without any exclusion, is considered to have passed the competitive exam.
  4. If a sufficient number of candidates are not selected, only the winners will be considered.
  5. Candidates whose enrolment in the second year of the curriculum in one of the faculty’s branches has been accepted are required to register within one week of the date on which their enrolment is announced on the faculty notice board, failing which they will lose their right to enroll and will be replaced by other candidates selected in accordance with the rule of order referred to in the second point of this article.

 

Transitional provisions

 

Article 5

The Faculty of Science of the Lebanese University may, once only, organize a second cycle of exams for students who have failed in the first year of the Department of Natural Sciences and who are attending the preparatory courses for the 1993-1994 academic year, prior to the entrance exam for the second year of the Faculty of Medical Sciences for the 1994-1995 academic year.

 

Article 6

The present decree will be published and notified as necessary and will come into force as from the 1994-1995 academic year.
