Decree No. 9775 Creation of the Center for Language and Communication Sciences within the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of the Lebanese University

Article 1

Decree No. 2142 of January 14, 2000 (creation of the Department of Language and Communication Sciences within the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of the Lebanese University) is repealed.

 

Article 2

A center called the Center for Language and Communication Sciences is hereby established within the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of the Lebanese University.

 

Article 3

The center is attached to the dean's office of the faculty.

 

Article 4

The teaching provided at the center aims to prepare students to specialize in language and communication sciences in Arabic, French, and English, in connection with automatic language processing.

 

Article 5

The Council of the Lebanese University defines the regulations, programs, course schedules, and examination procedures of the center, upon the proposal of the Faculty Council and the recommendation of the center council.

 

Article 6

The center prepares students to obtain the following degrees:

- Bachelor's degree in comparative linguistic engineering: automatic language processing track or language teaching engineering track.

- Master's degree in applied computational linguistics, automatic language industry, and training.

- Doctorate in Language and Communication Sciences Engineering.

These specializations may be modified or new specializations may be added by decision of the university council on the recommendation of the Faculty Council based on the recommendation of the center council.

 

Article 7

The dean of the faculty is responsible for the general supervision of the center's activities.

 

Article 8

The center is managed by a director and a council in accordance with the powers and rights provided for in the regulations relating to Branch Directors and their councils in the units of the Lebanese University.

 

Article 9

The board is composed of:

- the director of the center, who is its chair;

- the heads of the three language departments: Arabic, French, English, and applied computer science;

- a representative of the center's teaching staff.

 

Article 10

Candidates for membership in the center are subject to an oral and written examination, the conditions and specifications of which are set by decision of the university council.

 

Article 11

The university council, on the advice of the center's board, approves the regulations relating to the center's operation with regard to membership conditions, examination regulations, internal regulations, programs, curricula, and regulations that contribute to the center's development and the regulation of its operation in all respects.

 

Article 12

This decree shall be published and communicated where necessary.
