Decree No. 11020 establishing a center for training journalists and developing media outlets at the Institute of Journalism

Article 1

A Center is established in the Institute of Journalism at the Lebanese University called:

Journalist Training & Media Development Center. This center shall be a third department in the aforementioned institute and the rules and regulations related to departments at the Lebanese University shall apply thereto. The center shall commence its activities during the academic year 1968-1969.

 

Article 2

The mission of the Center is to contribute to the training of journalists, especially journalists from Arab countries, by organizing international media meetings, holding seminars, teaching professional preparation methods and journalism fundamentals, developing research curricula involving different countries, especially those in the Arab East, highlighting the rules of professional ethics consistent with the conditions of each country concerned, publishing the results of the work done, and issuing books and publications related to professional preparation and teaching the art of journalism.

 

Article 3

The head of the department shall cooperate with a study committee composed of journalism specialists and Lebanese or non-Lebanese academics, provided that the number of journalism specialists is equal to the number of academics.

The members of the committee shall be at least six and at most ten and shall be appointed for a period of three years, renewable by a decision of the President of the Lebanese University based on the proposal of the Director of the Institute of Journalism.

The head of the Center's department chairs the committee and exercises the right to vote like the rest of the committee members, and his vote is weighted in the event of a tie.

The decisions of the aforementioned committee do not become effective until after the approval of the Director of the Institute.

 

Article 4

The Center may grant certificates attesting to participation in seminars, symposiums and courses and specifying the extent of benefit therefrom.

The University Council shall determine by decision the procedures for granting these certificates.

 

Article 5

The director of the Institute of Journalism at the Lebanese University is temporarily entrusted with the management of the said center.

 

Article 6

The President of the Lebanese University is in charge of implementing the provisions of this decree.

 

Article 7

This decree shall be published and communicated where needed.
