Decree No. 3333 issued on 22 February 1960 regarding the regulations of the Faculty of Law

Article 1

 

The Faculty of Law at the Lebanese University comprises two departments: the first is the Department of Law & Economics, and the second is the Department of Political Sciences.

 

Regulatory Provisions

 

Article 2

 

The provisions of Decree No. 2516 dated 14 October 1959 relating to the regulations of the Faculty of Law at the Lebanese University shall apply to the Department of Political Sciences in all administrative and financial matters, in the conditions for appointing and contracting teaching staff, and in the conditions for admitting students and the rules governing examinations and their sessions.

 

Article 3

 

The duration of study in this department is four years, at the end of which successful students are awarded a bachelor’s degree in political sciences.

 

Article 4

 

The curriculum for this department includes the following science subjects distributed over four years as follows:

 

First year:

1- General introduction to political sciences, approaches and methods of political study

2- General principles of civil law

3- Constitutional law, principles of public law

4- Modern and contemporary general history

5- Economic geography and political geography

6- General political and constitutional history

7- Political economy (with a general introduction to economics)

8- Practical exercises

 

Second year:

1- General history of political systems and doctrines

2- Development of political and constitutional systems in Lebanon and the Arab countries

3- History of public international law

4- Land trade law

5- Diplomatic history

6- Human geography

7- Political economy

8- Practical exercises

 

Third year:

1- Public international law

2- International criminal law

3- Administrative law

4- Maritime trade law

5- General diplomatic history (1648-1815)

6- General sociology

7- Economic policy and trade agreements

8- Practical exercises

 

Fourth year:

1- International relations

2- International organizations (general and regional)

3- Diplomatic history of Lebanon and Arab countries

4- Middle East issues

5- Private international law

6- Aviation law

7- Finance and financial legislation

8- Customs legislation

9- Public opinion and propaganda

10- Practical exercises

 

Transitional Provisions

 

Article 5

 

Academy students who have enrolled at the Lebanese University shall continue their studies in political sciences and economics in accordance with the Academy's curriculum in the second and third years, and those who pass at the end of the program shall receive a bachelor's degree in political science after submitting their thesis.

 

Article 6

 

First-year students of the Academy who fail the exam shall enroll in the new department and shall be subject to the system specified in this decree.

 

Final Provisions

 

Article 7

 

This decree shall come into effect immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette, and all texts that contradict or are inconsistent with its provisions shall be repealed.
