Article 1
A faculty named “Faculty of Engineering” shall be established at the Lebanese University.
Article 2
The mission of the Faculty of Engineering is to provide higher education in the field of engineering as stipulated in Article 4 of this decree.
Article 3
This faculty shall award engineering degrees at various levels, starting with a diploma in engineering (bachelor's degree), and the higher levels shall be determined by a decision of the Minister of National Education & Fine Arts based on the recommendation of the faculty council and the proposal of the University Council.
Article 4
The Faculty of Engineering shall include the following departments:
1- Department of Building & Urban Engineering
2- Department of Public Works Engineering
3- Department of Mechanical Engineering
4- Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering
5- Department of Industrial Chemical Engineering
6- Department of Petrochemical Engineering
7- Any other department decided by the Minister of National Education & Fine Arts based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council and the proposal of the University Council.
Article 5
The faculty may organize training courses and advanced complementary studies for engineers in various fields by decision of the University Council based on the proposal of the Faculty Council.
Article 6
Teaching at the faculty is based on a year system, and the duration of study in the departments is at least five years for the diploma (bachelor's) level. Additional years are added for higher levels by decision of the Minister of National Education & Fine Arts, based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council and the proposal of the University Council.
Students are not allowed to repeat more than two years during the five-year period of study.
Article 7
Admission to the preparatory year at the Faculty of Engineering requires a Lebanese Baccalaureate (Part II) in either mathematics or science, or a Lebanese Technical Baccalaureate (Part II), in addition to certain requirements approved by the Faculty Council and the University Council.
Holders of specialization certificates from the Faculty of Science at the Lebanese University or other relevant faculties may enroll in one of the departments of the Faculty of Engineering in the years they are entitled to, according to a special system established for this purpose by the Faculty Council and approved by the University Council.
Article 8
The number of students to be admitted to the first year of each department is determined by a special system established by the Faculty Council and approved by the University Council, which is issued before the first round of exams for the preparatory year.
Students shall be admitted according to their success in the preparatory year exams, with priority in the selection of departments given to those who excel in these exams according to their ranking.
Article 9
The necessary laboratories and workshops shall be established in the faculty, and engineering and scientific research centers may be established therein, provided that the Faculty Council shall establish the annual program for such research at the beginning of each year and that it shall be approved by the University Council.
Article 10
Upon issuance of this decree and within a maximum period of one year, the Minister of National Education & Fine Arts shall, based on the proposal of the University President, approve the regulations governing the establishment and operation of the faculty.
The Faculty Council shall be responsible for proposing the faculty's internal regulations and submitting them to the University Council for approval and then to the Minister of National Education & Fine Arts for ratification.
The provisional regulations and internal regulations shall include:
a. Determining the priority of the departments referred to in Article 4 during the establishment phase and developing the corresponding curricula.
b. Determining the conditions for appointment to the staff and the terms of contract for teaching and technical personnel in the various educational departments, after approval by the Council of Ministers.
c. Determining the staff of contracted employees at the faculty.
d. Determining construction and equipment needs and developing plans for the faculty's continued development.
e. Completing all necessary steps to implement this decree.
Article 11
The Lebanese University - Faculty of Engineering budget shall include the necessary appropriations to ensure the implementation of this decree.
Article 12
Except for the provisions mentioned above, all provisions of the laws in force at the Lebanese University shall apply to the Faculty of Engineering.
Article 13
This decree shall be published and communicated as necessary.
