Article 1

 

The Lebanese University establishes a faculty named "Faculty of Agronomy".

 

Article 2

 

In addition to the general provisions stipulated in the legislation governing the organization of the Lebanese University, the Faculty of Agronomy is subject to the provisions of this decree.

 

Article 3

 

The faculty is responsible for:

1. Preparing students to gain experience and specialized knowledge in basic sciences and sciences related to agricultural and animal production and the protection of agricultural crops and animals from pests and diseases.
2. Contributing to securing competent human elements and qualifying them to assume responsibilities in various sectors and to secure the work of guidance, scientific research and agricultural education.
3. Providing the basis for conducting scientific research and experiments in various fields related to land and animals in order to modernize agricultural and livestock production and raise them in the path of development and progress, and including scientific research in this field in its natural field of integrated general scientific research in the faculties and institutes of the Lebanese University.
4. Issuing basic or periodic scientific publications that reflect the activities of the faculty and groups of researchers working in the faculty and in various scientific institutions, and placing information about ongoing research within reach in an effort to spread agricultural and veterinary culture.
5. Establishing training courses on specialized topics in all agricultural sectors.

 

Article 4

 

The study curricula, programs and exam system shall be determined by a decision of the University Council based on the proposal of the Faculty Council.

 

Article 5

 

The faculty consists of two branches: The Agricultural Branch and the Veterinary Branch, each of which is headed by a professor or assistant professor appointed upon the nomination of the University Council based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council. If there is no professor or assistant professor on the staff, the University Council has the right to contract a specialist for this purpose.

Other departments, divisions and centers can be established by decree based on the proposal of the Minister of Culture and Higher Education.

The Minister's proposal shall be based on a decision of the University Council based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council.

 

Article 6

 

Teaching in both branches is based on a system of two semesters:

Cycle 1 (2 years) covers the teaching of basic scientific subjects and some general subjects in agricultural and veterinary sciences.

Cycle 2 (2 years) covers the teaching of specialized scientific subjects that qualify for the profession of agricultural engineer or veterinarian.

 

Article 7

 

A student who has successfully completed his studies in the second cycle will be awarded a certificate of “Agricultural Engineer” on which the branch of specialization is indicated.

 

Article 8

 

Students of the Faculty of Agronomy are subject to all provisions of the internal regulations of the Lebanese University and the internal regulations of the Faculty, which are established in accordance with the regulations in force at the University.

Students are required to attend all theoretical lessons and scientific exercises and to conduct all studies and research required by the prescribed programs. Only those who attend all lessons and conduct the required research are entitled to sit for the exams, unless the prohibition to attend or conduct research is based on a legitimate excuse assessed by the Faculty Council.

If a student is absent during the academic year for any reason for more than twenty percent of the official working hours, he is prevented from taking the exams for that year.

 

Article 9

 

The provisions of Articles 43 and 70 of Law No. 75/67 of December 26, 1967 shall apply to the appointment of the Dean of the Faculty of Agronomy and its teaching staff for a transitional period of five years from the date of entry into force of this decree.

 

Article 10

 

The technical and administrative staff of the Faculty of Agronomy and the conditions of appointment shall be determined by a decree adopted by the Council of Ministers in accordance with the rules.

 

Article 11

 

The budget of the Lebanese University - Faculty of Agronomy shall include the necessary funds to ensure the implementation of this decree.

 

Article 12

 

This decree shall be published and communicated where needed.
