FMS students excel at international conference on medical education and AI
Students from the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) - Ali Salloum, Hadi Fatouni, Amarelle Chamoun, Lynn Diab, and Abir Abi Ghenam - participated in the international conference “The Next Wave of Medical Education - Redefining Healthcare in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” held at LAU in Beirut from 18 to 20 September 2025.
The conference addressed the latest trends and challenges related to the development of university programs and the integration of technology in healthcare. Participants emphasized the importance of equipping future doctors with the digital and cognitive skills necessary to keep pace with rapid transformations in the field of modern medicine.
For the first time in Lebanon, the SESAM SimUniversity 2025 international competition was held at LAU - Jbeil on 19 and 20 September 2025. The Lebanese University was represented by an exceptional team of FSM students composed of Ahmad Dala, Lea Monzer, Rima Hariri, Mahdi Akouch, and Zahi Al-Rabih, under the supervision of Dr. Mahmoud Hallal, Dr. Remi Lakkis, and resident physician Abbas Rachid.
The main scenario of the competition focused on the case of a patient with acute myocardial infarction (STEMI), which then progressed to cardiac arrhythmia and cardiac arrest. The Lebanese University team demonstrated exceptional performance in managing this case through advanced clinical thinking and coordinated teamwork, reflecting a high level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
The jury praised the team's level of expertise, commending its clinical efficiency, depth of medical reasoning, and ability to manage complex emergencies with remarkable efficiency, describing its performance as “work worthy of physicians.”
