The MAPE department of the FFAA wins the urban design prize at the Gaza competition for projects
The Master's department in Landscape and Environmental Architecture (MAPE) of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture (FFAA) won first Urban Design Award at the Gaza competition for projects.
The project submitted by the Lebanese University to the Gaza competition conveyed a message of peace and a humanistic vision that reconstruction is a cultural and cognitive act aimed at shaping a more just and sustainable future.
The project was based on a profound spatial narrative centered on a central water mirror that evokes collective memory and connects the past to the present. Its vision is embodied in a long-term environmental approach based on flexibility and sustainability through the use of local plant species, the collection and reuse of rainwater, and a design in harmony with natural ecological cycles, making the site a living ecosystem capable of adapting and enduring.
The competition jury praised the project's spatial narrative strength and its integrated conceptual approach, which combines historical, cultural, and environmental dimensions, transforming the site into an inclusive urban experience that reinforces memory, identity, and belonging.
