Chapter I: General Provisions
Article 1
The Faculty of Agronomy consists of the following two branches:
1. Agricultural Sciences
2. Veterinary Sciences
Article 2
Teaching, research, scientific experiments and other tasks assigned to the Faculty of Agronomy under Article 3 of Decree No. 9306 dated 21 October 1974 are conducted in “research stations and scientific experiments” affiliated with the said Faculty.
Article 3
The research stations and scientific experiments stipulated in the previous article shall be established and their locations shall be determined by a decree adopted by the Council of Ministers based on the proposal of the Minister of National Education and Fine Arts, after consulting the opinion of the University Council or based on its recommendation.
Article 4
Each of the branches of agricultural sciences and veterinary sciences includes divisions of specialization that are defined by a decree issued by the Council of Ministers upon the proposal of the Minister of National Education and Fine Arts, after consulting the opinion of the University Council or upon its recommendation.
Article 5
Both the Agricultural Sciences and the Veterinary Sciences are headed by a professor or assistant professor from the faculty's staff. In the absence of a professor or assistant professor on the aforementioned staff, the branch may be headed by a full-time contractor from the faculty, provided that he meets at least the requirements for the appointment of an assistant professor.
Article 6
The members of the teaching staff attached to each of the branches of agricultural sciences and veterinary sciences shall form a scientific body called the “branch body”.
The head of the branch shall be elected by the branch body, and his term of office shall be determined in accordance with what is applicable to the head of the academic department in other university faculties.
Article 7
The Scientific Research and Experiments Station shall be headed by a professor or assistant professor from the faculty's staff, and in the absence of a professor or assistant professor in the aforementioned staff. The University Council has the right, upon the recommendation of the Faculty Council, to contract a specialist for this purpose, provided that he meets at least the conditions for the appointment of an assistant professor.
Article 8
The system for managing research and scientific experimentation and the powers of their directors shall be determined by a decree issued by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of National Education and Fine Arts, after consulting the University Council or on the basis of its recommendation. -
Chapter II: Certificate system
Article 9
The Faculty of Agronomy awards the following degrees, which are prepared for both the Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Sciences branches:
First: Agricultural Sciences
Agricultural Engineering Diploma (Agricultural Engineer)
Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Sciences
PhD in Agricultural Sciences
Second: Veterinary Sciences
Veterinary Medicine Diploma (Veterinarian)
Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Science
PhD in Veterinary Science
Article 10
The duration of study for each of the degrees mentioned in the previous article is determined as follows:
1- Agricultural Engineering Diploma and Veterinary Medicine Diploma: Five years
2- Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Sciences and Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Sciences: At least one year.
3- PhD in agricultural sciences and PhD in veterinary sciences: At least three years.
Chapter III: Teaching System
Article 11
Within a period not exceeding five years from the date of issuance of this decree, the teaching system and curricula for postgraduate and doctoral diplomas in agricultural sciences and veterinary sciences shall be established by a decree adopted by the Council of Ministers upon the proposal of the Minister of National Education and Fine Arts, after consulting the opinion of the University Council or upon its recommendation.
Article 12
The Agricultural Engineering Diploma and the Veterinary Medicine Diploma are being prepared in two cycles:
- Cycle 1: Two years.
- Cycle 2: Three years
Article 13
Each of the two cycles mentioned in the previous article constitutes an indivisible methodological unit that is subject to its own system as specified in this decree.
Article 14
The teaching of the subjects prescribed in the curricula of both seminars is organized over the course of the entire academic year. If necessary, these subjects may be taught in partial semesters of the said year.
Article 15
The academic year consists of academic weeks, each of which includes (35) thirty-five teaching hours.
Teaching is distributed between two periods per day: Before noon and after noon.
Article 16
Classes at the Faculty of Agronomy begin in early October and end in late July.
Article 17
The study period specified for obtaining the agricultural engineering diploma stipulated in Article 10 of this decree consists of (180) one hundred and eighty weeks, which includes (6,300) six thousand and three hundred hours of teaching distributed as follows:
First: (140) one hundred and forty weeks for theoretical and practical teaching: (4,900) hours
Second: (31) thirty-one weeks for field training, distributed in turn: (1,085) hours.
- (15) Fifteen weeks of field training during university years
- (16) Sixteen weeks of field training during summer vacations
Third: (9) Nine weeks dedicated to study trips: (315) hours.
Article 18
The study period specified for obtaining the veterinary medicine diploma stipulated in Article 10 of this decree consists of (180) one hundred and eighty weeks, which includes (6,300) six thousand and three hundred hours of teaching distributed as follows:
First: (144) one hundred and forty-four weeks for theoretical and scientific teaching: (5,040) hours.
Second: (27) twenty-seven weeks for field training, distributed in turn: (945) hours
- (11) Eleven weeks of field training during summer vacations.
- (16) Sixteen weeks of field training during summer vacations.
Third: (9) Nine weeks dedicated to study trips: (315) hours.
Article 19
The curricula of the Agricultural Engineering Diploma and the Veterinary Medicine Diploma include the following categories of subjects:
Theoretical and scientific subjects, which are taught within the faculty's facilities.
Field training subjects, which are conducted in institutions selected by the faculty.
Study trips.
Article 20
The study curricula in the first cycle of the agricultural engineering diploma shall be common among the students of this cycle and the study curricula in the first year of the second cycle shall be common among the students of this year of the aforementioned diploma.
Article 21
Beginning in the second year of the second cycle (fourth academic year) of the Agricultural Engineering Diploma, teaching in the agricultural sciences branch is divided into the following specialization divisions:
1- Agricultural Production
2- Animal Production
3- Crop Protection
4- Soil Science and Land Reclamation
5- Agricultural Machinery and Automation
6- Agricultural Irrigation and Drainage
7- Agricultural Industries and Foodstuffs
8- Forestry
Article 22
The curricula for the agricultural engineering diploma shall be determined according to the following tables annexed to this decree:

Article 24
The details of the curricula stipulated in the previous two articles of this decree shall be established by a decision of the University Council based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council and the consultation of the competent branch.
Chapter IV: Affiliation system
Affiliation to Cycle 1
Article 25
For students to be admitted to the first year of the first cycle of the agricultural engineering diploma and the veterinary medicine diploma, the following is required:
Possession of a baccalaureate certificate of the second section or its official equivalent.
Success in an entrance exam organized for this purpose by a decision of the University Council based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council.
Article 26
The entrance exam stipulated in the previous article of this decree includes the following written tests:

The selection of questions for the scientific subjects in the exam is based on the curriculum of the Baccalaureate Section II - Experimental Science.
A separate exam is held for students applying for the first year of the Agricultural Engineering Diploma and for students applying for the first year of the Veterinary Medicine Diploma.
Article 27
The maximum number of students who can be admitted to the first year of the first cycle for both the Agricultural Engineering Diploma and the Veterinary Medicine Diploma shall be determined separately by a decision of the University Council based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council.
The said maximum number, as well as the date of the exam, shall be announced by a decision of the University Council, based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council.
Students shall be accepted according to the sequence of their grades in success, without any other consideration, and within the maximum number mentioned above without any substitution.
Article 28
A student is considered successful in the entrance exam if he/she meets the following two conditions:
1- Possessing an overall average of not less than (12/20) twelve out of twenty in the total grades obtained in the subjects of the exam.
2- None of his/her grades are lower than (5/20) five out of twenty.
Article 29
The candidate who succeeded in the CEE and his affiliation was accepted to the faculty shall conduct his registration process within a week from the date of announcing the results on the announcement board in the faculty, under penalty of losing the right to affiliation and being replaced by others from the list of successful candidates according to the sequence rule referred to in the third paragraph of Article 27 of this decree.
Article 30
A special committee headed by the dean of the faculty and formed by a decision of the university president based on the recommendation of the faculty council shall supervise the organization of the entrance exam.
Affiliation to Cycle 2
Article 31
Students applying for admission to the first year of the second cycle (third academic year) of the Agricultural Engineering Diploma or Veterinary Medicine Diploma should have successfully completed the first cycle of the aforementioned diploma in accordance with the conditions stipulated in the examination system specified in this decree.
Article 32
Students may be admitted directly to the first year of the second cycle (third academic year) of the Agricultural Engineering Diploma through a special competition for students who have completed the first and second years of the Bachelor of Natural Sciences at the Faculty of Science of the Lebanese University, or equivalent courses determined by the Faculty of Agronomy Council for this purpose and approved by the University Council.
Article 33
1- The special competition referred to in the previous article of this decree shall include the following written subjects:

2- The questions about this competition shall be based on the content of the courses mentioned in Article 32 of this decree.
Article 34
The provisions of Articles 27, 28, 29 and 30 of this Decree apply to the special exam stipulated in the two previous articles for enrollment in the first year of the second cycle (3rd academic year) of the Agricultural Engineering Diploma.
Article 35
In order for a student to enroll in the faculty of Agronomy to prepare:
1- Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Sciences, to be in possession of an agricultural engineering diploma.
2- Postgraduate diploma in veterinary sciences, to be in possession of a veterinary medicine diploma.
Article 36
In order for a student to join the Faculty of Agronomy to prepare:
1- PhD in Agricultural Sciences, to be a holder of a postgraduate diploma in Agricultural Sciences.
2- PhD in veterinary sciences, to be in possession of a postgraduate diploma in veterinary sciences.
Chapter V: Exam System
Article 37
The University Council, based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council, determines the details of the exam system based on the basic provisions stipulated in this decree.
Article 38
During the academic year, the student is subject to at least two partial exams and a final exam in each of the study subjects scheduled for the said year, with the exception of field training subjects and study trip subjects, which are evaluated with one grade in accordance with the examination system referred to in the previous article.
Article 39
At the end of each of the first and second cycles, a student who obtains an overall average for each cycle of not less than (12/20) twelve marks out of twenty in the total of his marks in the years that make up the cycle, provided that his marks do not fall below (8/20) eight marks out of twenty in more than three subjects of the total subjects scheduled for the last year of the cycle, is considered successful.
Article 40
A student may transfer from one methodological year to the next year within the same cycle if he has an annual average of not less than (11/20) eleven out of twenty marks, provided that his marks do not fall below (8/20) eight out of twenty marks, in more than three subjects out of the total subjects scheduled for the year from which he wants to transfer.
Article 41
Subject to the provisions of Article 39 of this decree, in order to pass at the end of the second cycle, the student shall obtain a score of not less than (10/20) ten out of twenty marks in the field training course prescribed in the curriculum of the third year of the second cycle (5th academic year).
Article 42
A student is not entitled to stay for more than three years in the first cycle and no more than four years in the second cycle.
Article 43
A student loses his right to continue his studies in the faculty if he is absent for a period of one academic year of the years of study prescribed for obtaining the agricultural engineering diploma or the veterinary medicine diploma, without a legitimate reason approved by the University Council based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council.
Chapter VI: Teaching Staff System
Article 44
Members of the teaching staff belonging to the tenured staff of the Faculty of Agronomy shall undertake the teaching, research and scientific experiments assigned to the faculty and may not interrupt their teaching duties to undertake research and experiments, which is a condition of their membership in the faculty staff.
Article 45
The Faculty Council may, if required for the proper functioning of its work, assign members of the teaching staff belonging to the permanent staff to devote themselves entirely to research and scientific experiments without teaching, provided that this assignment does not exceed three consecutive academic years.
It is up to the University Council to approve the special system prepared by the Faculty Council for this purpose, which specifies the principles of the said assignment.
Article 46
The equation between teaching hours and working hours in research and scientific experiments shall be determined according to a rule established by the Faculty Council for this purpose and approved by the University Council.
The University Council, based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council, determines the weekly and annual teaching quota for members of the teaching staff according to the ranks to which they belong, and determines in the same way the nature of the teaching tasks assigned to each of the aforementioned ranks.
Chapter VII: Transitional & Final Provisions
Article 47
The Faculty of Agronomy can benefit from the research and experimentation centers belonging to the Agricultural Scientific Research Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, use its scientific and technical facilities and equipment in various regions, and cooperate with members of the research and technical staff therein in order to secure the workflow of the faculty where teaching, research and scientific experiments related to the mentioned teaching needs are conducted.
For this purpose, the University Council shall draw up a special regulation based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council, subject to approval by the Minister of Education, National Education, and Fine Arts and the Minister of Agriculture.
Article 48
The Faculty of Agronomy has the right to cooperate with other university institutions working in the sectors of agriculture and veterinary medicine in Lebanon or abroad to ensure the conduct of its work, especially with regard to teaching the subjects prescribed in the curricula of the degrees prepared by the faculty and conducting scientific research and experiments related to the said teaching subjects.
A decree adopted by the Council of Ministers, based on the proposal of the Minister of Education, National Education, and Fine Arts, after consulting the opinion of the University Council or upon its recommendation, shall determine the areas of cooperation with these institutions and the conditions of cooperation therewith.
Article 49
If required for the proper functioning of the faculty, the curricula of the first cycle of the agricultural engineering diploma or the veterinary medicine diploma may be taught outside the research stations and scientific experiments stipulated in Article 2 of this decree, in buildings belonging to the faculty or university faculties, by a decision of the University Council based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council.
Article 50
Priority during the establishment phase is given to the agricultural sciences branch.
Article 51
The divisions of specialization in the branch of agricultural sciences stipulated in Article 21 of this decree shall be opened in accordance with the availability of the faculty's capabilities by a decision of the University Council based on the recommendation of the Faculty Council.
Article 52
This decree shall enter into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
