Dr. Al-Mousawi pointed to the noticeable increase in domestic violence cases with the escalation of the economic crisis and the Coronavirus pandemic, which prompted researchers in sociology and law science to raise awareness of such risks, pointing out that since the passage of Law 293, violence has become a criminal act under penalty of criminal accountability.
Professor Abu Reda reviewed the Research Center's mission aimed at building knowledge capable of understanding society and its changes through a sustainable development vision and working to achieve academic openness that serve Lebanese national policies from a scientific perspective, in addition to preparing the specialized human resources in this regard.
Dr. Atwi addressed the correlational relationship between violence and crises in a cognitive-historical context and presented the phenomenon of violence from a socio-family point of view, and an approach to all cultural, psychological and social dimensions that explain the remarkable increase in domestic violence cases in light of the disturbances caused by job loss and home quarantine as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Colonel Mousallem emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Internal Security Forces, academics in general, and the Lebanese University in particular in the field of scientific research, and spoke about the laws of the Internal Security Forces and their tasks on all Lebanese territories as well as the measures taken in partnership with the relevant associations, the hotline service and the principles of dealing with complaints of domestic violence and crimes of sexual assault and how to provide support to victims in cooperation with "KAFA", "Abaad" and the National Authority for the Protection of Women's Affairs.
Ms. Zoya Rouhana discussed the experience of "KAFA" since its establishment in 2005, referring to the endeavors to provide legal advice, follow-ups in the judiciary, and psychological care for battered women. She pointed to the escalation of domestic violence during the Coronavirus period, as evidenced by the association's receipt in March 2020 of 299 reports, bringing the number in June 2020 to 1,371 cases, in addition to the killing of six women in July 2020 as a result of domestic violence.
