Scientific research is an activity carried out by the Lebanese University, with the aim of producing, transferring, documenting and investing knowledge in the development of Lebanese society, human, economic, social and cultural. The law on the organization of the Lebanese University (No. 75/67 dated 26/12/1967) in Chapter I (the mission of the University and its departments), in its first article, defines the functions of the Lebanese University as follows: “ the Lebanese University is a public institution that carries out the tasks of formal higher education in its various branches and degrees. In doing so, the legislation would link the importance of scientific research and education, placing it at the heart of the University's tasks. Which means that the role of the university is not complete without a quest to do the job. Thus, it should be emphasized at the beginning of this report that scientific research is not only an individual optional activity of the University professor, if he has the circumstances, motivations or personal need (e.g. promotion), but is at the core of the University's functions as a research educational institution. However, the law itself (No. 75/67 dated 26/12/1967), which sets out in precise detail the administrative, financial and academic structure concerned with achieving the educational tasks of the University, and details the work of colleges, institutes and departments, and the functions of deans, directors, heads of departments and employees in 76 articles, refers to scientific research in a single paragraph of Article 43 in Chapter V on the” educational in Article 41: "The aim should be to increase specialization or to go to scientific research." In addition, Law No. 6/70 (Organization of the work of the Educational Commission) dated 32/2/1970, refers indirectly to the subject of scientific research as follows: “the university shall provide the means of research from books, manuscripts, photographs, devices and documents. And so on, necessitating research..”111
University mission:
"The Lebanese University is a public institution that carries out the tasks of formal higher education in its various branches and degrees, and there are Centers for scientific and literary research in high regard. Therefore, the Lebanese University seeks to prepare its students to be active citizens who contribute to the building and development of Lebanese society and give them the necessary knowledge tools and competencies to keep abreast of economic, social and cultural developments and the ability to take advantage of accelerated technical developments and contribute to the building of the knowledge society.
The University's position and role in Lebanese society:
The Lebanese University has an essential role in building and developing Lebanese society, human, economic, social, educational and cultural. This role from her position as a formal single national in Lebanon and it contains the energies of the great scientific quality and quantity (more than 3500 people Party, the great majority of PhDs) and more than half of university students in Lebanon from all social segments and regions of Lebanon. One of its tasks is to give the opportunity to a wide segment of society for social advancement and to have a decent and decent life through free access to university education of all degrees. The Lebanese University is qualified to be the "locomotive" of the development process through its role in educating and training more than half of the future Lebanese society in line with the needs and aspirations of this society and through the participation of its educational body in research and studies, proposing solutions to social, economic and political problems, providing environmental and educational consultations, technical, industrial
The university provides financial and logistical support to researchers through four programs: the general program to support individual academic research launched in 2002, the program to support research teams(1, 2, 3) launched in 2008, the program to support applied research projects related to society and the newly launched program to support innovation and Development Research (2012).

Programs support scientific research ( , Programmes de soutien de la recherche Scientifique Research Grants) are the tools most successful adopted internationally to activate and stimulate the process of scientific research in universities.
