The DSLHSS holds the Virtual International Conference on Language, Literature and Culture

Under the patronage of Professor Fouad Ayoub, President of the Lebanese University and the support of Professor Mohammad Mohsen, Dean of the Doctoral School in Literature, Humanities & Social Sciences, the School organized on 19-20 November 2020 a virtual international conference entitled “Langue, Literature & Culture”, with the participation of a group of researchers and PhD students from Lebanon and Arab and foreign countries.

The conference began with an opening session and speeches delivered by Dr. Khanem Al-Masri Al-Omar, Conference Coordinator, Professor Ammar Asoum, representing the Lebanese Association for Scientific Research (LASeR), and Professor Jean-Noël Baléo, Regional Director of the Francophone University Agency (AUF), and concluded with the Doctoral School speech delivered by Professor Dima Hamdan, representing Dean Mohsen.

The opening session was followed by a plenary session chaired by Professor Hamdan, during which Professor Mohamad Barnoussi from “Moulay Ismail University” in Meknes, Morocco discussed culture from a semiotic point of view, indicating and demonstrating the current state of studies conducted on the culture semiotics through some examples.

Six sessions followed over two days during which the participants presented their research discussed in depth scientifically, and the sessions came as follows:

  • Session 1 chaired by Dr. Rita Abdel Nour, focused on language as a factor in spreading culture
  • Session 2 chaired by Professor Haitham Qotb, focused on "Culture in the Framework of Teaching Foreign Languages"
  • Session 3 chaired by Dr. Rita Bou Dagher, focused on culture of the other, acculturation, and the emerging relationships between cultures contained in the literary works
  • Session 4 chaired by Professor Mohamad Barnousi, focused on the cultural convergence found in some cited and translated literary works
  • Session 5 chaired by Dr. Samah Daakour, focused on the role of literature as a means for spreading culture
  • Session 6 chaired by Dr. Zainab Olaik, focused on the issue of culture and its relationship with society

Days after the conference, Dr. Al-Masry presented an honorary shield to Professor Mohsen, in appreciation of the Doctoral participation, hosting and sponsorship of this scientific and cultural event.
