
“Community Readings in Times of War” at the Institute of Social Sciences - Branch 1
The Institute of Social Sciences – Branch 1 organized a seminar entitled “Community Readings in Times of War: Lebanon, Gaza and Jerusalem” under the patronage of President Bassam Badran, and in the presence of former ministers Mohammad Fneish and Mohammad Wissam El-Mortada, the Dean of the Institute, Dr. Marlene Haidar, political, diplomatic, legal and academic figures, media representatives, and a group of professors and students.
The seminar opened with a speech by Dr. Iqbal Sharafuddin, who welcomed the attendees and emphasized that the meeting embodies the Lebanese University's commitment to national and community issues and presents readings resulting from different experiences conveyed by the speakers from their respective positions.
Afterwards, Dr. Ali Zeaiter, Director of the Institute of Social Sciences - Branch 1, delivered a speech in which he highlighted the importance of activating the role of the Lebanese University as a productive space for critical knowledge, stressing that the basis of social sciences is interaction with social issues.
The Dean of the Institute, Dr. Marlene Haidar, spoke about the importance of the topic in the current regional context, affirming her support for this type of event that links academia with societal issues.
