Centre MINE of the Lebanese University honored by “UNIMED”
The Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED) honored the Center for Careers, Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Centre MINE) of the Lebanese University, awarding it the "best practice 2020" prize, in recognition of its role in developing the skills of students and young graduates, and their professional integration into the Mediterranean labor market.
UNIMED, which comprises 130 universities from 23 Mediterranean countries, was based on a set of criteria, namely SDG-Agenda 2030 objectives and the role of Centre MINE in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, women empowerment and employability, in addition to training and cooperation agreements.
Since its creation in 2019, Centre MINE seeks to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship among students, guiding them to better develop their skills and create their own projects through a network of partners.
In 2020, Centre MINE was able to offer students and graduates of the Lebanese University 2,600 job opportunities, in cooperation with more than 1,300 organizations, in addition to organizing more than 269 trainings with the participation of 77 international trainers. The Center has 41 accredited coordinators and more than 23 cooperation agreements with several local and international organizations.
Dr. Riad Mekdessi, Director of Centre MINE, stressed that the efforts aimed at building more cohesive and secure societies. He also considered that students and graduates of the Lebanese University are endowed with unique skills acquired during the orientation and training workshops provided by the Center. Thus, they access the job market with confidence and in line with their specialization.
Dr. Mekdessi stressed the importance of involving the private sector and creating the right legal conditions for employers and SMEs to create new jobs. Finally, he stressed the importance of encouraging companies to innovate and support the projects of today's youth.
