Student Melissa Akiki among the first in Lebanon and the world in “IAAC-2021”
Student Melissa Akiki from the Faculty of Engineering (Branch 2) ranked first representing Lebanon and among the top two percent globally in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition (IAAC-2021).
The international online competition was organized in several stages and spanned about four months before announcing the results in July 2021. It is a scientific competition that tests students' skills in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics and applies those skills to find solutions to astronomical problems.
Dr. Rani Rizk, Director of the Faculty of Engineering (Branch 2) supervised Melissa’s work who is pursuing her second year of engineering at the faculty.
It is noteworthy that Melissa is the director of activities in the astronomical “Roumieh Space Club” of the Faculty of Engineering (Branch 2).
