The Lebanese University keeps pace with the campaign to clean up Lake Qaraoun
The Litani River National Authority, in cooperation with the Lebanese University, the Lebanese Army, the Lebanese Red Cross, Operation Big Blue and a group of volunteers from private universities and environmental and civil associations, completed the cleanup of the eastern shore of Lake Qaraoun, where thousands of fishes washed up on its surface.
The Lebanese University teams, affiliated with the university Crisis Intervention Unit (LUTF), worked to save the lake from this ecological disaster, under the direct supervision of President Fouad Ayoub.
With the release of the first reports, the LUTF Rapid Response Team (RRT) was activated, under the supervision of Dr. Hassan Salameh, Racha Zebian, Patricia Nasr and Aya Mortada, to coordinate, prepare and supervise the field work.
In addition, a team from the Faculty of Agronomy, composed of the Chairman of the Food Safety Lebanese Commission, Dr. Elie Awad, in addition to Professors Rabih Rammouz and Salem Hayar, participated in the collection of samples to be analyzed by the Animal Production Lab of the faculty and specialized laboratories in Lebanon and abroad.
A team from the National Center for the Quality of Medicine, Food, Water and Chemicals, led by Professor Nazih Bou Chahine and Pascale Salameh, is conducting an epidemiological study to show the health effects of this ecological disaster and present the results to the relevant authorities.
