Study by Lebanese University researchers published in an international journal

The “International Dairy Journal” published on 13 July 2022, a scientific research article for a group of researchers in the Faculty of Public Health and Faculty of Agronomy related to food safety, entitled: Microbiological contamination, antimicrobial residues, and antimicrobial resistance in raw bovine milk in Lebanon.

The research, which was supervised by Dr. Zeina Daher from the Faculty of Public Health, is the first of its kind in Lebanon to assess the health level of raw cow's milk across the four regions (Beqaa, Mount Lebanon, North and South).

Based on European and Lebanese standards, the microbiological results showed that most types of milk do not comply with these standards, and milk samples taken showed high levels of pathogenic and antibiotic-resistant bacteria, making this product unfit for direct consumption.
