Born in Beirut, 1961

 

He was appointed by the University Council, President of the Lebanese University according to Cabinet Decree No. (4071) of 13 October 2016.

 

Scientific Qualifications

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences, specializing in Forensic Medicine, from the Russian Federal Center of Forensic Science in 1993.
  • Diploma of Doctor of Medicine, specializing in Oral Diseases and Dental Medicine, from the Kalinin State Medical Institute (the former Soviet Union) in 1985.
  • Degree in Advanced Studies in Forensic Dental Medicine from Tver State Medical University in 1990.
  • Diploma in Oral Pathology from Saint Joseph University in Beirut in 2001.
  • Training Certificate in Forensic Medical Sciences from the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Paris in 2002.
  • International Training Certificate in Post Blast Scene Management (Holland Training in Forensic Medical Science from the Institute of Forensic) in 2006.

Professional Career

  • Lecturer at the Lebanese University since 1990.
  • Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine between 2014 and 2016, the date of his election as President of the Lebanese University.
  • Founder of a program for teaching forensic dentistry at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, making the Lebanese University the first in the Arab world to teach the major at the level of the second and third cycles.
  • Founder of the first master's degree in medical forensic investigation and crime scene and disaster management at the Faculty of Dental Medicine.
  • Participant in the development of the draft law on DNA testing in the Committee of Legal Affairs Modernization and the Justice and Administration Committee in the Parliament.
  • Founder of a forensic training program for judges, prosecutors and criminal investigators in Arab countries.
  • International Forensic Medical Advisor and Expert in Human Identity Identification at the International Organization for Emergency and Disaster Services, London.
  • Participated in following up the forensic medical file for the assassination of the late Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and his companions in 2005, in addition to the bombing crimes that followed in Beirut, Southern Suburbs, Tripoli and the Beqaa.
  • Participated in identifying the remains of the Lebanese army martyrs who were found after the 'Fajr al-Joroud' operation in 2017.
  • Participated in identifying the bodies buried in Anjar mass grave and five other mass graves at the request of the Lebanese judiciary between 2004 and 2009, as Chairman of the Scientific Committee for Human Identity Identification.
  • Participated in identifying the victims of aviation disasters, including the Kenyan airplane in Abidjan, the UTA airplane in Cotonou, the Ethiopian airplane in Beirut, the Algerian airplane in the Malian desert, in addition to the sinking of the illegal boat in Indonesia.
  • Owner of ten patents on human identification and DNA testing, five of which are in widespread use today.
  • Author of dozens of research articles published in peer-reviewed international journals, thirty-five of which are indexed in “PUBMED”.
