Scientific Qualifications
- Studied at the Private School of Mukhtara and the Marist Brothers in Deir El Qamar and Jounieh;
- Degree in Natural Sciences from the Higher School for Teachers of the Lebanese University (1951-1954);
- CAPES Certificate in 1955;
- PhD (Third cycle) in Natural Sciences from the University of Toulouse, France in 1969;
- PhD in Natural Sciences from Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France in 1972.
Professional Career
- Chairman of the National Council for Scientific Research between 1993 and 1996;
- Appointed President of the Lebanese University between 1980 and 1988;
- Appointed Dean of the Faculty of Science at the Lebanese University between 1977 and 1980;
- Headed the Science Education Department at the Lebanese University - Faculty of Pedagogy between 1962 and 1969;
- Worked as technical advisor for secondary education in the Ministry of Education between 1959 and 1961;
- Chaired the International Bureau for Education (IBE / UNESCO) in Geneva between 1988 and 1992;
- Chaired the National Commission for UNESCO in 1997 and 1998;
- Wrote with his wife, Henriette Sabbagh, many books on environmental sciences, mammals and birds.
- Has two books in Arabic on the history of the Lebanese University, dozens of pamphlets on environmental protection in Lebanon, and more than 65 scientific publications published in specialized magazines (most of them in French).
- Holder of an honorary PhD from the American University of Beirut in 2008.
