Three Lebanese University students on Facebook and Google lists of honor
Three students of the Lebanese University were able to uncover security gaps in Google and Facebook applications, earning them a place on the honor lists from both digital giants.
Hassan Badran, Majd Dhainy and Hadi Zein El Dine, master's students in Computer Science at the Faculty of Science, discovered a flaw in "Google keep" application, which prevents the target user from accessing his notes.
On 30 March 2021, Google acknowledged to address the flaw, via a letter to the three students, and decided as a reward, to include their names on its list of honor.
In addition, the three students, in cooperation with fellow computer science student Abbas Jaber, informed Facebook about the existence of a flaw in "Messenger" application, which allows a former member of a newsgroup to detect any changes in the group membership list.
On 27 April 2021, Facebook undertook to do the necessary to fix the flaw, and decided to grant the students a cash reward and put their names on its list of honor.
It is noteworthy that the student group discovered six security flaws in Facebook apps, including Instagram and WhatsApp, in less than a year.
