
Lebanese University signs agreement for joint PhD program with French university network A2U
As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation and support scientific research, the Lebanese University signed an agreement to launch a joint doctoral program with the French university network A2U, which includes the University of the Littoral Opal Coast (ULCO), University of Picardie Jules Verne (UPJV), and Artois University.
The agreement was signed at the Lebanese University Presidency Building - Museum in the presence of President Bassam Badran, and the President of ULCO, Dr. Edmond Abi Aad, representing the A2U network, and a number of deans of faculties and institutes of the Lebanese University and directors of its branches.
The program aims to strengthen research cooperation between the Doctoral School of Science & Technology and research centers at A2U universities by offering annual scholarships to Lebanese students to pursue doctoral theses under the joint supervision of the Lebanese University and one of the A2U universities.
Starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, ten doctoral scholarships will be awarded annually, distributed as follows: four scholarships at ULCO, three scholarships at UPJV, and three scholarships at Artois.
The scholarships cover the following scientific disciplines:
- Marine sciences
- Artificial intelligence
- Renewable and alternative energies
- Environment and natural resources
- Health
The program is jointly funded by the Lebanese University and the A2U network. Students in France receive a monthly scholarship of €1,600 for six months per year, in addition to an annual travel ticket and exemption from registration fees.
In Lebanon, the Lebanese University provides a monthly stipend of 25 million Lebanese pounds for six months, in addition to covering laboratory expenses and health insurance.
Students are selected by a joint academic committee from both sides, based on transparent criteria that ensure academic excellence and competence.
