
President Ayoub receives the Director of the Beirut-based Regional Bureau of the UNESCO for Education in the Arab States, Hamad Bin Saif al-Hammami
The President of the Lebanese University, Professor Fouad Ayoub, received in his office at the Central Administration on 4 November 2020, the Director of the Beirut-based Regional Bureau of the UNESCO for Education in the Arab States, Hamad Bin Saif al-Hammami, accompanied by Ms. Maysoun Chehab, UNESCO Beirut's Education Program Officer for Lebanon, in the presence of Dr. Zainab Saad, Coordinator of International Relations Office, and Dr. Pierre Mattar, Chairman of the Buildings Committee at the Lebanese University.
Dr. Hammami expressed UNESCO's interest in cooperating with the Lebanese University, and informed President Ayoub of the decision to approve the restoration of the University buildings affected by the Beirut Port explosion, and to consider this support among UNESCO’s priorities in terms of restoring Lebanese educational institutions following the explosion.
The two parties discussed in detail the needs of the Lebanese University following the explosion and the damages to the central administration building, faculties and infrastructure.
Dr. Hammami announced UNESCO's approval of the donation provided by Qatar to restore some of the damaged buildings according to the priorities and the size of the damages at the Lebanese University, provided that UNESCO undertakes the implementation of the restoration process and completes the necessary practical and operational procedures.
The discussion involved the difficulties faced by the Lebanese University in completing the academic year 2019-2020 and the on-going preparations to start the academic year 2020-2021.
