
Scientific webinar at the Research Center of the Institute of Social Sciences
The Sociology of Knowledge and Culture Laboratory of the Research Center of the Institute of Social Sciences organized a scientific webinar via MS Teams on “Pluralistic Societies and Anti-Normalization - A Sociological Reading”, in the presence of the Research Center President, Professor Hussein Abu Reda, and the Laboratory Coordinator, Professor Ghassan Taha, with the participation of a group of Researchers from Lebanon and the Arab world, and about 500 professors, researchers and students from various academic and research specializations.
During the webinar, Professor Ghassan Taha said that the refusal of normalization is a question of value, raising various issues related to the current geopolitical culture.
Professor Abu Reda said that the concept of normalization, as currently proposed by some, is practiced through the violence of thought.
The Director General of the Palestinian National Security Research Institute, Professor Nayef Jarad, addressed the strategic geopolitical implications and dimensions of normalization, based on the agreements reached recently.
Professor Hussein Rahal discussed the concept of identity in contemporary societies, which can have multiple dimensions to a person, a nationality, a group or any sectarian or ethnic group.
Professor Ghassan El Khaled pointed out that the issue of resistance to normalization differs from one segment to another due to several factors, including religion, media, the nature of the dominant lifestyle, in addition to the role of political power.
Dr. Mounir Mhanna addressed the effect of religious identities on the course of the conflict with Israel, considering that the problem is related to religious texts and their interpretations.
The webinar ended with a speech by the editor of Al Adab magazine, Dr. Samah Idris, who spoke about the links of normalization with the media and ways to combat it.
